About ADAHK

Background of Australian Doctors Association of Hong Kong

Founded in 2025, the Australian Doctors Association of Hong Kong (ADAHK) unites more than 200 Australian-trained physicians who now serve the Hong Kong community. Our membership spans the full breadth of clinical practice—from general practitioners providing frontline primary care to specialists in internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, psychiatry, obstetrics, anaesthesia and more. Though we hail from every corner of Australia, we share a common commitment: using our training, experience and cross-cultural perspective to improve health in the Hong Kong community.

Aims

  • Professional Cohesion: ADAHK acts as a hub where Australian medical graduates practising in Hong Kong can exchange knowledge, mentor newcomers and amplify our collective voice.
  • Service to Hong Kong: By pooling clinical expertise we support charitable clinics, health-promotion campaigns and disaster-response efforts that benefit the territory’s 7 million residents.
  • Bilateral Bridges: We foster enduring links between the medical communities of Hong Kong and Australia, encouraging joint research, specialist exchanges and continuing education.

Mission

First, to safeguard the welfare and professional development of our members through advocacy, accredited CME programmes and collegial networking. Second, to educate and empower the public—delivering talks, vaccination drives and evidence-based health resources that raise community wellbeing. Third, to strengthen friendship and collaboration between Hong Kong’s wider medical profession and our Australian counterparts, promoting the open exchange of ideas and best practice.

Governance & Structure

ADAHK is governed by a nine-member Council elected biennially from the general membership. The current Council comprises:

  • President: Prof Lawrence K. S. Wong
  • Vice-President: Dr John T. H. Wong
  • Secretary: Dr Lewis Fung
  • Treasurer: Dr Danny Ma
  • Council Members (6): drawn from both primary-care and specialist fields.

Through this structure, ADAHK channels the talents of Australian-trained doctors into tangible benefits for both our profession and the people of Hong Kong.
