After graduating from the University of Sydney medical school, Dr Chan returned to Hong Kong and practises as a medical specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. His clinical practice mainly focuses on human reproduction. He is the Director of Hong Kong Reproductive Medicine Centre.

Apart from his clinical practice, Dr Chan is also an Adjunct Associate Professor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong School of Public Health, Adjunct Associate Professor of the Education University of Hong Kong, and Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine Nursing and Health Sciences, Monash University.

During the past decades, Dr Chan researched extensively and had published 69 research papers in cited medical journals and written 2 chapters in medical textbooks. Dr Chan is also Fellow of Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and Hong Kong College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
